Project
A reservation page for a numbered fountain pen, an edition of 300. The pen assembles on load, comes apart on the page, and the page ends in a registry of all 300 numbers.
Task
A pen at CHF 1,450 is bought by hand, and a screen cannot hand it over. Most pen shops show one glossy photo, so the choice comes down to price.
We had to let the buyer inspect the pen on a screen and make the limited edition felt, without turning the page into a technical diagram.
Solution
The page takes the pen apart into six labelled parts and lights them one by one with their specifications, because a buyer trusts what can be inspected. A drawing turns into the real pen section by section, because grip, feed and nib are where hand work shows.
The buyer sets the nib width, the ink and the engraving and sees the line and the brass band change. The closing registry shows all 300 numbers filling by finish, so the limit is visible and the buyer picks a number.
What was hard
The exploded view can read as a technical diagram, not a pen you want to hold.
Three finishes can look like three different products, and a grid of 300 numbers can look like a spreadsheet.
How we solved it
All parts come from one 3D model, so the whole pen and its pieces always match. Each finish is the same pen in the same light, so only the colour changes.
The grid takes its colours from the three finishes, and the pen assembles beside it and engraves the number you would get.
How this helps your business
A pen is bought by hand, so the page lets the buyer take it apart before paying
The pen assembles on load, comes apart into six labelled parts and turns into a drawing, so the buyer inspects the object instead of trusting one glossy photo.
The call to action is a CHF 150 deposit for a numbered pen, so reserving costs little and the limit of 300 is visible the whole time.
Fits if You sell one object by the piece: pens, watches, knives, bicycles.
